Build your
team’s
expertise.

The video-based learning platform for your team. Build practical battery expertise without creating your own training programme — developed by battery scientist Tom Bötticher.

Before Battery Essentials

What slows your team down at work

01

Experts without spare capacity

Your battery experts are busy with development and delivery. There is little time left to design training, prepare learning materials or onboard new colleagues.

02

Knowledge without a shared foundation

Engineering, sales and management bring different levels of knowledge. This makes collaboration harder and adds time to internal discussions and customer conversations.

03

Training that takes too much time

In-person training uses budget, working hours and organisational effort. Schedules need to align while projects and customer work continue.

04

Innovation without perspective

New battery technologies are announced constantly. Your team needs the technical understanding to assess opportunities for products, customers and new business models.

05

Data without confident interpretation

Battery test data is available, but not everyone knows how to interpret it. Without shared understanding, key questions keep landing with the same few specialists.

After Battery Essentials

Your team understands the connections.

Your employees build a shared technical foundation. They understand what affects performance, lifespan and safety, and can have more focused discussions with your experts.

Your team recognises relevant opportunities.

Your employees can assess technical developments and market claims. This helps them evaluate new applications and business models on a sound technical basis.

Your experts stay focused on projects.

Battery Essentials handles the fundamentals. Your team learns independently with ready-made content, giving specialists more time for development, customers and complex challenges.

Why workplace training often stalls

Textbooks

Technical books require substantial independent work. Relevant material still needs to be selected, explained clearly and connected to everyday work.

Research papers

Individual papers explore specialist topics. They do not provide an accessible, shared foundation for employees with different levels of experience.

Internal expertise

Your specialists know the technology. But effective training also takes time, structure and clear explanations — on top of a full project schedule.

In-person training

Fixed dates, travel and repeat sessions complicate planning. New employees often have to wait for the next available session.

What your team gets

01 / 04

A complete, ready-to-use solution

More than 40 video lessons across 9 topic chapters, handouts, quizzes and a final examination with a certificate: your team gets a structured path from the fundamentals to deeper understanding. You do not need to design a training programme or assemble learning materials.

02 / 04

Practical knowledge for your business

Every theoretical concept is explained through real applications. Your team can understand technical decisions, advise customers more confidently and recognise opportunities for new products and business models.

Available anytime – at their own pace

Your employees learn when it fits their working day. They can pause, revisit and resume lessons whenever needed. Individual access makes onboarding easier without having to organise shared training sessions.

About the author

Tom Bötticher

Research. Industry. Clear explanations.

Tom Bötticher combines battery research and industry experience with ten years of science communication. This combination helps teams understand complex connections and apply their knowledge at work.

As a chemistry graduate, he specialised in battery storage early on: at the MEET Battery Research Center in Münster, then with battery pioneer Prof. Jeff Dahn at Dalhousie University in Canada. In collaboration with Tesla, he and his team identified a cause of unwanted self-discharge — a finding with direct relevance to battery manufacturing that attracted worldwide media coverage.

He also brings practical industry experience as co-founder of Litona, where the team develops high-performance sodium-ion energy storage in Ulm, Germany. On YouTube, he now reaches over a million viewers each month and more than 150,000 subscribers. He makes battery technology and electric mobility accessible through explanations that are scientifically grounded, clear and entertaining.

He founded Battery Essentials in 2023 to share this experience: He distils his knowledge into the essentials, explains connections step by step and links theory to real applications. This enables employees to understand batteries, contribute to technical discussions and make informed decisions at work. His goal is to inspire enthusiasm for science and help shape a sustainable future.
